LETTER OPTION 1 – CITIZEN

Dear [MP / Minister],

As a concerned citizen, I was alarmed to learn that Western Canada’s agriculture sector is being threatened by land-use priorities at the Port of Vancouver.

I was dismayed to hear how the Port is prioritizing cargo containers over the long-time home of West Coast Reduction, a family company that provides important processing services to hundreds of agriculture producers, plus creates feedstock for renewable fuels. This company helps put food on our table, and fights climate change.

I urge you to resolve this matter with the Port quickly, before lasting harm is done to our farming community – and by extension, Canadians.

Sincerely,

[Name], [city]

LETTER OPTION 2 – COMPANY/ORGANIZATION

Dear [MP / Minister],

As an organization that contributes to Canada’s prosperity, we were dismayed to learn that misguided land-use priorities at the Port of Vancouver are threatening our country’s vital agriculture sector.

This disruption couldn’t come at a worse time. We’re all counting on domestic food production today, more than ever. Sadly, the Port is prioritizing contingency plans for a mega cargo container terminal over the long-time home of a company that provides critical processing services to Western Canada’s food sector. That company, West Coast Reduction, helps keep food prices down by putting money back into the agricultural supply chain, and creates feedstock for biofuel and renewable gas production –  helping Canada meets its greenhouse gas reduction targets.

Apparently, the Port of Vancouver wants to be “the world’s most sustainable port”. But to earn that title, the Port’s container aspirations must be balanced with the need for domestic food security.

The choice is simple: Sustainable agriculture, or more cargo containers. Please, tell the Port’s leadership to prioritize domestic agriculture and a healthy climate over container terminals.

Canada’s domestic food security at risk.

Sincerely,

[Organization], [city]
